Actress and singer-songwriter Emily Kinney brought an intimate dose of indie-pop charm to Winnipeg Comiccon on October 30, 2026, taking the stage at the RBC Convention Centre for a performance that balanced heartfelt songwriting, playful humour, and plenty of personal storytelling.

Best known to many for her role as Beth Greene on The Walking Dead, Kinney has steadily built a musical career that showcases a different side of her creativity. Her Winnipeg performance offered fans an opportunity to connect with her beyond the screen and outside of the typical Comic-Con setting, with a set that highlighted her conversational songwriting, delicate vocals, and endearing stage presence.

Opening with her song “Easy,” Kinney quickly established the relaxed, approachable atmosphere that carried throughout the evening. “I Don't Want To Grow Up” followed, bringing a reflective quality to the performance, while her cover of Waxahatchee's “Be Good” added a welcome nod to the indie music influences that complement her own material.

Between songs, Kinney proved just as engaging as she was behind the microphone. Introducing “B or C for Effort,” she shared a humorous story about her romantic history, explaining that although she is engaged, there had been other men in her life before then who received letter grades based on their efforts. The anecdote offered a glimpse of her playful personality and provided an entertaining introduction to the song.

“Genetic Makeup” and “Poor Serena” continued the evening's mix of thoughtful songwriting and lighthearted moments, before Kinney turned to “Reasons To Stay Alive.” The song became one of the night's more interactive moments, as she encouraged the audience to join in on the lyrics “from winter to summer,” creating a shared moment between Kinney and the Winnipeg audience.

The set continued with “Hold On,” followed by “The Parting Glass,” a traditional Irish song that she made her own as Beth Greene in The Walking Dead. The song brought a timeless, reflective element to the performance. Closing with the track, “15 Minutes,” Kinney wrapped up the evening on a fitting note, leaving the audience with one final taste of her musical personality.

While Comic-Con is typically associated with celebrity appearances, cosplay, and pop culture celebrations, Kinney's performance offered something a little different: an intimate musical experience built around honest lyrics, personal anecdotes, and genuine audience connection. Her ability to move effortlessly between humour and heartfelt emotion made for an engaging set, proving that there is much more to her creative world than her work on television.
