Interview With 2BYG

The R&B/pop group includes members Matt Brown, Tourè, Nixx, and KD. Their debut EP, The Yearbook, was released on November 7th, and their new single “Be Mine” was released on April 3, 2026.

Four stylish men in colorful attire pose confidently against a dark background. One wears glasses, another a cowboy hat. Energetic vibe.

A lot has been said about the similarities between 2BYG and the R&B groups of the 90's. What makes you different from these groups?

2BYG: I feel like adding the youth, the sound of today. It's not exactly as it was. We are tapping into the nostalgia but not depending heavily on it. Adding that sound and mixing it with what we know growing up versus what we’ve heard now is what separates it.

How do you plan to stay authentic in a music industry that can be anything but?

2BYG: That’s where we are right now. We are finding our world so that we can stay true to ourselves. Nobody can do you better than you. As long as you stay true to yourself, then having longevity wouldn't be that hard.

You started as a trio and later added KD to the group. How did the sound and the energy of the band change once you went from three voices to four?

2BYG: By having a fifth member when it comes to the harmonies, it's a big difference. It's more full. KD brought an outside perspective. Not growing up the way we did, the three of us have similar backgrounds, and he brought a different perspective.

You all grew up singing in gospel choirs. How has that foundation shaped the way you approach harmonies today?

2BYG: “Be Mine” is a good example. When it comes to the backgrounds, you can really hear the church soul in the back. They all stem from church and gospel. Anything we do with harmonies is an extension of that.

When you’re in the studio together, does it start more with vocals, lyrics, or production?

2BYG: We start with production, but a lot of times it starts with a concept and conversation. That's how “Be Mine” came about. We talked about where we’re at in our lives and the people that are also in that place in their lives.

How does working on solo projects and tours help you become better as a band?

2BYG: I feel like when you're working on a solo project, you're actually working on finding your inner self. So when you come back to the group, you're bringing what you learned to the group.

Since there are four of you, could you please describe your collaborative process when writing and recording tracks in the studio?

2BYG: We all have intricacies that we add; one might be more focused on the writing and the backgrounds, another on the melodies, and if not melodies, then focused on writing and telling a story. Sometimes putting in the missing piece of the song and production.
