Trailblazing Winnipeg singer-songwriter Jade Turner returns with her most personal and emotionally profound album yet, Breathe. As a masterful storyteller and dynamic vocalist, Turner showcases her ability to transform deeply personal experiences into universally resonant songs. Her third studio album, set for release on February 7, 2025, spans the genres of Americana, Roots, and Country, offering a compelling collection of eleven songs that explore themes of self-discovery, resilience, and emotional healing. Featuring collaborations with legendary Canadian artist Crystal Shawanda and rising Manitoba talent Sebastian Gaskin, Breathe is an evocative, raw, and powerful statement from an artist coming into her own.

Turner’s latest release follows the biggest year of her career, solidifying her place as one of Canada’s most celebrated singer-songwriters. In 2024, she was a semifinalist in SiriusXM’s Top of the Country competition, gained national recognition through Breakfast Television and eTalk, and surpassed 500,000 streams across her musical catalogue. She won her fourth career Manitoba Country Music Award, took home the Vince Fontaine Indigenous Song Award at the 2024 SOCAN Awards, and earned the Kevin Walters Memorial Songwriting Award from Manitoba Music. Further cementing her impact, Turner performed at the iHeartRadio Canadian Country Music Awards pre-show and was a featured artist in the National Music Centre and SiriusXM’s EQ Live showcase. With continued national airplay and appearances on the Indigenous Music Countdown, Turner’s artistry has never been more widely recognized.

Firmly rooted in storytelling, Breathe serves as a diary-like exploration of Turner’s life experiences, including becoming a mother, navigating divorce, and confronting the impact of addiction on loved ones. Turner describes the album as her therapy, saying, “I don’t normally talk about my vulnerabilities, but this is my way of talking about it—by singing it.” In moving beyond the traditional confines of country music, she delves deeper into Americana and Roots, crafting a collection that is as sonically rich as it is emotionally charged.

Standout Tracks:

  • "You’re Only Nice When I’m Leaving" – A stark and haunting Roots ballad, this track finds Turner reflecting on toxic relationship patterns with sparse instrumentation, allowing her sharp lyrical insight to shine, as well as her emotive voice. "That Wind" – Inspired by Turner’s lifelong experiences with dogsledding, this track serves as a powerful metaphor for chasing one’s dreams, its stirring instrumentation capturing the essence of resilience and freedom.

  • "Breathe" – The album's title track, which was co-written with Manitoba singer-songwriters Rhianna Rae Saj and Sebastian Gaskin, is a meditative exploration of anxiety. Using a layered blend of R&B, Roots, and Americana, Turner builds an immersive sonic landscape designed to help listeners ground themselves and find peace.

  • "Deadweight" – Co-written with Crystal Shawanda, this powerful, anthemic track explores the pain of bullying and the journey toward self-empowerment, marking a full-circle moment for Turner, who was inspired to pursue music after seeing Shawanda on television as a child.

With Breathe, Jade Turner has crafted an album that not only solidifies her standing as one of Canada’s most gifted songwriters but also speaks to the universal struggles and triumphs of personal transformation. Her fearless honesty, combined with her ability to navigate difficult themes with both sensitivity and strength, makes Breathe an unforgettable listen. More than just an album, it is a testament to Turner’s evolution as an artist and as a woman—bold, unfiltered, and profoundly authentic. Whether you’re seeking solace, inspiration, or simply an album that resonates with raw emotion, Breathe is a must-listen.
