BABYMONSTER - BABYMONS7ER

YG Entertainment’s newest girl group BABYMONSTER officially marked their full-group arrival with BABYMONS7ER, a confident and polished mini album released on April 1, 2024. Serving as both a reintroduction and a statement of intent, the seven-track project showcases the group’s duality: fierce, high-energy hip-hop bravado balanced with heartfelt, vocally driven moments that hint at longevity beyond the hype.

The album opens with “MONSTERS (Intro),” a cinematic and ominous forty-four-second-long prelude that feels purpose-built for a stage entrance. It sets the tone with dramatic production and an air of anticipation, positioning BABYMONSTER as a group ready to claim their space rather than ask for it.

That confidence explodes into the explosive track “SHEESH,” the album’s undeniable centrepiece. Anchored by booming bass, swagger-heavy rap verses, and a chant-ready hook, the track leans fully into YG’s signature sound while allowing each member to shine. It’s immensely brash, catchy, and unapologetic—a bold declaration that BABYMONSTER are here to compete at the highest level of K-pop.

“LIKE THAT” shifts gears into something smoother and more playful, blending flirtatious melodies with polished pop production. The '90s pop-inspired track highlights the group’s vocal versatility and charm, offering a lighter contrast to the intensity of “SHEESH” while maintaining a strong sense of identity.

Emotional depth arrives with “Struck In The Middle (7 Version),” a reworked full-group rendition that leans into vulnerability. The song’s restrained piano-ballad instrumentation allows the group's members’ vocals to take center stage, emphasizing themes of emotional conflict and uncertainty. It’s a standout moment that proves BABYMONSTER’s strength isn’t limited to power and attitude.

That emotional thread continues with “BATTER UP (7 Version),” which feels more complete and impactful in its full-member form. The track retains its punchy confidence while benefiting from added vocal layers and a stronger sense of cohesion, reinforcing the group’s chemistry.

“DREAM” is perhaps the album’s most heartfelt offering—a warm, hopeful track that reflects ambition, perseverance, and youthful optimism. It provides a glimpse into the group’s softer side and feels like a message not only to fans, but to the members themselves as they step into such a demanding industry.

Closing the project is “Struck In The Middle (Remix),” which reframes the emotional ballad with a more modern, rhythmic edge. While not as impactful as the original version, it adds a fresh perspective and rounds out the album nicely as a little added bonus track.

Overall, BABYMONS7ER succeeds as an introductory mini album that balances spectacle with sincerity. BABYMONSTER prove they can deliver YG-style swagger while also offering emotional resonance and vocal maturity beyond their rookie status. Rather than feeling like a test run, the project feels assured—a strong foundation that suggests BABYMONSTER are not just another debut, but a group built with staying power in mind.
