Interview With Kristi Jacques

How would you describe your music to anyone who may have never heard it? Kristi: That's a great question. I don't really fit into any one genre, to be honest. I'm a little pop, a little rock with just a hint of country. I guess that kind of sums it up. I'm basically a musical mutt. [Laughs].

What’s the significance of your musical moniker? K: It is my name. It's who I am. What you see is what you get. What are your musical influences? K: There are so many. When I was very young, I listened to Patsy Cline. Growing up, it was Heart, The Pretenders, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Raitt, and other strong female artists with incredible voices. As I got more into rock, I am influenced by artists who are able to write incredible songs. I am a huge Alter Bridge and Myles Kennedy fan for that very reason. The list goes on from there.

What are your musical inspirations? K: I write my lyrics right now from past experiences, struggles, influences, and more. I am not sure what my real inspirations come from because there are times when lyrics or phrases come to me in my sleep and wake me up in the middle of the night. No rhyme or reason.

If given the chance, what musician(s) would you like to collaborate with? Rather this is to either write a song or be featured on a track. K: Of course, I have to say Myles Kennedy because he is the reason I even got back to music after more than a twenty-five-year hiatus.

Do you have any favourite songs to perform live? Could be your own music or even a cover. Any reason why? K: I am currently not performing live. I have some health issues that I am working on, so I hope to be getting out there soon. It will be a combination of originals and covers. I am also in the process of finding other musicians to work with, which would get me performing live sooner.

If you could perform a show this very second anywhere in the world, where would it be? Is there any particular venue(s) or city/cities that comes to mind? K: I don't have an answer to this yet since I am so new and haven't performed live yet. I would say any city, any venue, any time.

What do you currently have planned for the remainder of the year? K: I am currently writing and recording new songs and hope to have something new out the first of the year.

Thanks for the time today! Is there anything else you may want to add before you go? K: Thank you! I enjoyed it! I guess the only thing I would add is to support independent musicians and make sure to follow me and subscribe to my socials. Some shameless self-promotion. Thanks again!
